NEO-BAROQUE SPLENDOUR

Colour for care of monuments

The theatre, Deutsches Schauspielhaus, was built in 1899 to 1900 in the Hamburg district of St. Georg. It o ffers 1,900 seats for the audience and is the lar gest German theatre for spoken performances. The building boasts a neo-baroque style both inside and out. Within the scope of overall reconstruction finishing in 2014 the walls and the ceiling of the large auditorium were also renovated. All surfaces were heavily soiled and had to be cleaned first. Cracks were enlarged and filled, water stains were treated with primer. The management chose the reversible Histolith emulsion paint from Caparol for the cream-coloured background surfaces and the stucco sculptures. Due to its almost stress-free drying and good flow properties, the paint proved particularly suitable for the implementation of the coatings.

The coating of the creamcoloured background surfaces and of the stucco sculptures was carried out with Histolith emulsion paint.
